CARP

Angling Times (UK) - - CONTENTS -

THE Ronnie rig, as exposed by Lewis Read in this issue, has long been catching carp under the radar, but now it’s out in the open and setting tongues wagging.

It certainly caused a stir in our office and, as you can see from the pic, we just had to tie some up ourselves. The beauty of it is you can store the business-end sections easily in a hook packet before tying on a desired boom section at the lake.

I was so impressed by the potential of this rig that I tried it out myself on a quick session at Bluebell Lakes and managed to catch one very quickly – albeit probably one of the smallest carp on the whole complex! I will definitely be experimenting further!

A lot of our time on the bank is actually spent watching other anglers fish, but in the last month I’ve managed to sneak in some post-work sessions on the river – perch fishing from a kayak!

I’ve owned a kayak for many years but ridiculously I’d never thought to fish from it.

Taking a small lure rod out with me has been a revelation and I really wish I’d done it sooner.

And that’s a lesson I think we can all take into our own fishing – don’t be afraid to try something different!
