Huge river roach on red maggot
A SINGLE red maggot fished under a stick float was too much for this 2lb 3oz roach to resist.
The pristine fish was banked by Mark Pilley when he targeted a stretch of a southern river.
It was getting towards the end of a session that had already produced several chub and dace when the tip of his float disappeared and his eighth river roach over the magical 2lb mark was soon in the net.
He used a Drennan stick float, 3lb mainline and a size 18 hook.
