Once again I Iearned lots in Ireland
The need for speed! Steve Ringer on how to up your catch rate.
I’VE just returned from a fantastic week in Ireland, fishing the 2016 World Pairs competition.
My brother Phil and I went into this year’s competition as the reigning champions, and while we didn’t manage to retain our title, we did make a final-day charge to move up into third place and the big-money positions.
That’s the beauty of this event. Because it’s decided on aggregate weight, you never feel like you’re out of it.
In fact it’s even possible to win it in a day, so it keeps everyone interested.
The fishing this year was better than ever, with weights in excess of 40 kilos of big hybrids and bream.
Of course, these fish still needed to be caught and, as always, it was the little things that made all the difference.
In a weight match every kilo counts, so getting a bonus kilo or two out of a swim can turn also-rans into winners.
This is what I’m going to talk about this week. Read and learn...
Phil and I collect third prize from the organisers.
