SLOPPY GROUNDBAIT FOR SMALL FISH
On the third day of the Pairs I was on the Pumphouse section of Lough Scurr, which is a great area but very shallow and somewhere the fish can easily be spooked.
Here I found it best to feed very sloppy groundbait to put a cloud in the water. This kept the fish where I wanted them. To create the cloud I simply overwetted my groundbait and added lots of finely chopped worms and a few casters. I then fed a ball with every fish or two.
The secret seemed to be to get the ball to disperse as soon as it hit the water, which illustrates just how sloppy the groundbait had to be.
Within the cloud itself, the stamp of fish was very mixed, but if I fished just past the feed then the stamp was a lot better. As a result of this I finished up feeding a metre short of my float, which worked a treat.
