THE EXPERT’S VIEW

DAVE LITTLE

Angling Times (UK) - - CARP NEWS -

AUTUMN is an exciting time. With all of spring and summer’s rich growth out of the way, it’s the perfect time to fish the river.

Less weed and fewer food items for the carp to find means that at this time of year I’ve got an advantage over nature’s own food stores.

Fishing the river recently I found in the margins a huge water snail to confirm my thoughts. These crunchy morsels have grown through the warmer months and are now the size of a 24mm boilie!

With this in mind I have always baited big on flowing waters at this time of year. Baiting regularly with 18mm Mainline Hybrid boilies or bigger has seen results right up into the winter months.

One bit of advice, though – remember, rivers flood!

Make sure you bait slowmoving areas out of the way of the main flow, otherwise it can become a costly affair as all efforts are washed out to sea.

A 27lb 4oz Ouse common taken in autumn.
