PELLET WAG SHALLOW FOR THE WIN
JASON Orwin put a massive 170-5-0 on to the scales for a stunning individual victory.
Drawing permanent peg 70, the 27-year-old from Ossett, West Yorks, started on the Method feeder at range for an early carp before concentrating on the pole for skimmers. But biteless after half-an-hour, he was soon on the pellet waggler after Sean Wilson at the next peg had caught three carp on it.
“I’d been catapulting 8mm pellets at 30 yards or so because I had seen a few carp on the surface in the calm water,” said Jason. “When Sean caught three I knew I had to go for them.”
Feeding quite heavily, Jason started to catch fish to 17lb steadily on a banded pellet a couple of feet deep.
He fished 8lb line and a 6g Middy Popper pellet waggler, changing to 8g as the match progressed. A size 16 Preston Innovations PR38 hook completed the set-up.
Said Jason: “Eight to 10 pellets every few minutes seemed to draw more carp in front of me. I’m over the moon to have won the Supercup Final – it’s my best-ever result!”
