Good sport on the River Severn
IF THE recent RiverFest qualifier is anything to go by, a visit to the River Severn at Bewdley is well worth considering this weekend. The match, held above and below the town bridge, fished its socks off with double-figure nets required to win all sections.
It wasn’t just a ‘sit and wait’ affair for the bigger barbel and chub which featured on the day, as anglers also reported good nets of roach, perch, dace and bleak.
Pegs upstream of the bridge are run by Kidderminster DAA and can be fished on a day ticket. Where you have plenty of depth inside you can catch on the float and even the whip, feeding casters or maggots. The shallower pegs and those by the town bridge (free to fish) are better suited to feeder fishing for chub and barbel in nets topping 40lb.
PRICES: Free fishing downstream of bridge until the concrete ends, otherwise £6 in advance for BAA or KDAA waters. The Dudley AS stretch is £6 a day, tickets on the bank CONTACT: Bewdley Tackle & Leisure, 01299 403386 LOCATION: River Severn, Load Street, Bewdley, Worcestershire, DY12 2AF RULES: No night fishing, no fires
Barbel and perch frequently visit anglers’ nets.
