Home-grown barbel boom
HAS there ever been a barbel catch to equal that reported by those three anglers at Gunthorpe, featured in this issue? To land 21 fish over 10lb in 24 hours is quite remarkable.
When Tight Lines filmed at the Environment Agency’s Fish Farm at Calverton some years back they were producing barbel, many of which went to commercial fisheries as well as stocking, or restocking, rivers.
The brood stock were taken from a small tributary of the Trent and returned there after performing their services.
The breeding programme, in all likelihood, has now resulted in the phenomenal catches we’re reading about. A great return on our rod licence investment!
