Big chub and roach give Ja­son a clear win

JA­SON Owen stunned the rest of the field with a bril­liant per­for­mance on the wag­gler and bronze mag­got to end with 27-8-0 and the £500 prize.

Drawn on the pipe bridge be­low Bai­ley’s Weir, he fished three-quar­ters of the way across the river in 4ft of water and fed heav­ily with mag­gots to land 10 chub to 5lb, plus the odd roach.

Run­ner-up Nick West was on Fer­ry­bridge peg 4. He started on the long pole with bronze mag­gots and hemp be­fore switch­ing to hemp on the hook to plun­der qual­ity roach for 17-0-0 and a £300 en­ve­lope.

More than £3,000 was raised over the eight-match se­ries for char­ity.
