Keith Arthur’s views on the news

Angling Times (UK) - - WELCOME -

HAVING had the pleasure of fishing with the remarkable Andrew Alsop I’m not a bit surprised that, along with his great mate and top angler Andy Griffith – who also caught the first mako shark off the Welsh coast – the pair have finally pulled a giant bluefin tuna through White Water’s marlin door.

It was always a case of when, rather than if, this happened. Tuna have been showing up for some years now, chasing the prey-fish shoals.

It’s been a fabulous summer for Andrew. Not only has the tuna happened, but a great run of sharks and even wreckfish (stone bass) has shown up.

I am certain this is down to Andrew and his crews using phenomenal amounts of chum (groundbait to coarse anglers). This will keep fish on the hunt – they can almost be weaned on to it.

More and more tuna are following the prey-fish shoals off the Welsh coast.
