Your Letters on the week’s news
I’VE been an angler for well over a decade and in all that time I have never seen a topic divide the sport as much as the huge carp that was landed last week.
If it is given the go-ahead as the British record, Tom Doherty’s 69lb 13oz fish will create an even bigger stir, and the debate will rumble on even longer as to whether the carp should go on to the record list. Personally I am in the camp that says the fish should definitely be a record. Those that are banging on about its heritage and that it ‘isn’t a true English carp’ really do need to take a long hard look at themselves.
The fish was caught in this country and is heavier than the previous best – what else is there to debate?!
Tom fished the venue correctly, used a rig that fooled the giant and then played it skilfully. He deserves his place in the history books.
Those that are slating him are probably jealous and, in my eyes, they don’t have a valid argument. Well done Tom, ignore the haters and enjoy your moment in the spotlight!
