England lose World title
CARP Team England failed to retain their World Carp Championship title in a tight competition in France.
The reigning champs finished sixth out of 26 nations, with Russia taking the title ahead of Lithuania and Romania. Wales finished 14th.
England manager Rob Hughes said of the 72-hour event at Lac Du Bourdon: “It was an amazing, exciting, exhilarating and disappointing competition – all at the same time.
“One extra fish in two of our sections could have put England on the podium, but the same could be said for a number of teams.
“It was a scratching match and fished hard, and so did we but, at the end of the day, we were not good enough this year to win.”
