Angling Times (UK) - - WHERE TO FISH -

Angling Times Senior Reporter Mark Peck says: TACKLE: “The barbel run to over 14lb and there are plenty of snags such as sunken trees and big boulders to test your gear. A 10-12lb mainline and hooklengths of 8lb-10lb are about right. Leave your fine-wire hooks at home and fish a Method, a groundbait feeder or a bomb heavy enough to hold in the flow. You may need to go up to 5oz-plus.”

BAITS: “Some anglers like to fish this stretch using a match fishing style caster and hemp attack with block-end feeders. This works well when the water is low. When it is up and coloured a groundbait attack is better.”

TACTICS: “Keep recasting to keep the feed going in. If you don’t get a fish within an hour, move swims. The shallow swims halfway up the stretch offer good floatfishing and touch-legering opportunities.”
