This canal, in­clud­ing the Turf Basin, has the rep­u­ta­tion as be­ing one of the South West’s best perch fish­eries, with bite-a-chuck ac­tion on drop shot gear com­ing from fish any­where be­tween 12oz and 4lb. This quiet ur­ban basin is of­ten over­looked by an­glers, but with nat­u­ral species like roach, tench, bream and big perch in abun­dance, it’s cer­tainly worth a shot. A 5lb perch is a dream spec­i­men, but visit the Old Canal and it could be­come a re­al­ity.
