Angling Times (UK) - - WELCOME -

IT MUST have been a huge decision for Bob Church to make to sell some of his cherished tackle and, especially, his filled fly box.

Bob’s Parkinson’s Disease has taken him away from the bank, so maybe he just wanted his kit to give pleasure to others.

It makes me wonder, though, why we don’t have a national angling museum. Our sport has so much history going back so many years.

Of course, museums cost money to set up, run and acquire items for and angling is very badly funded iin this respect because most anglers don’t see the need to support them.

Over twenty years ago a group of us campaigned for a one per cent levy to be added to the VAT on all angling-related items to help the sport grow and fight its corner.

The government pointed out that they were not in the business of acting as funding collectors, but surely Bob’s tackle should be on show for us, his contemporaries, and future generations to admire?

Bob Church in his pomp. His kit must be worth a museum…
