1 The lead­ers I use are of the E-S-P weedy green ta­pered kind, con­nected via a Mahin knot (above). En­sure all rig com­po­nents can pass over this knot for the sake of the carp. 2 With a naked chod I over­weight my pop-ups so they sink at the same rate as a free of­fer­ing. If you crit­i­cally bal­anced the chod it could get hung up on weed strands and sit off the bot­tom. 3 When chod fish­ing, scat­ter your boilies over a wider area than you would with other meth­ods to get the carp search­ing. 4 Use a pop-up that will lose a min­i­mum amount of buoy­ancy when sub­merged. To help with this, tie them on with bait floss – I use the Sticky Bait range. 5 Don’t fish a tight main­line, es­pe­cially when fish­ing at close range, oth­er­wise the rig won’t lie cor­rectly.
