SOLID OR HOLLOW?

Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

THERE are two main types of pole elastic – solid core and hollow core.

I use a solid elastic when I intend to fish solely for small fish such as roach and skimmers, typically Preston Slip Original in grade four, five or six.

Above these grades, for larger fish, I prefer a hollow version. Hollow elastics stretch a lot further than a solid elastic, so you are less likely to suffer a line breakage or hook pull from a running fish. Because of the extra stretch I’d recommend you use hollow elastics with a puller kit or puller bung, to tension the elastic by pulling it out with your spare hand and put pressure on a fish near the net.

My favourite elastic is Preston Hollo because it’s very forgiving.
