Dangers of lead release

Angling Times (UK) - - TACKLE NEWS -

I FEEL very strongly about the serious issue of the lead release system used by specimen carp anglers.

I believe it is a great danger to fisheries and their stocks. I recently watched two anglers on a full runs water catch 32 carp, releasing all the leads in the water.

Shop-bought leads are non-toxic, but many anglers I have spoken to say they are too expensive to keep losing, and so they make their own from melteddown scrap lead.

I have spoken to the Environment Agency and it says it cannot act, and that it is a matter for the venue owners to address.

I’d like to appeal to every reader to think about the potential damage they are causing before depositing leads. P Whittle, St Helens
