6 LOW-WATER BAITS
Chub have great eyesight, and in low, clear rivers they can become very spooky and ignore large baits.
As a rule of thumb, the clearer the water and the more pressure put on the chub, the smaller the baits I will use. A single maggot fished just 4ins below a blockend feeder filled with grubs is a great tactic when the chub are playing hard-to-get.
Recast every 20 minutes to keep a stream of maggots drifting away from the feeder.
Single maggot can work in clear water.
