Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

Chub have great eyesight, and in low, clear rivers they can become very spooky and ignore large baits.

As a rule of thumb, the clearer the water and the more pressure put on the chub, the smaller the baits I will use. A single maggot fished just 4ins below a blockend feeder filled with grubs is a great tactic when the chub are playing hard-to-get.

Recast every 20 minutes to keep a stream of maggots drifting away from the feeder.

Single maggot can work in clear water.

Try a maggot feeder for spooky chub.
