49lb 8oz as Lewis gives it some Welly!

LEWIS Read’s memorable season continued this week when he took a 49lb 8oz mirror from Wellington Country Park – the ninth fish he has caught over the 48lb mark this year!

It was landed after Lewis had already moved swims several times in a bid to get among the bigger fish at the in-form Berkshire venue.

“After a blank night I heard a few had shown in the little lake overnight, so I packed up and moved round,” he said. “In the new swim I put the rods on spots by the lily pads and along the nearside margin. I had a pull round at 12.30am and a spirited 26lb 4oz common was led to the net.

“The same rod was away again at 5.30am and I was attached to a much more powerful carp. After an intense battle I netted it, but only when I went to lift the mesh did I realise how big it was!”

The carp, Little Two Tone, fell to a Ronnie Rig made from a Covert Dark Mugga hook, a 25lb Trick Link hooklink and a Carp Company 12mm Pink Caviar Cranberry hookbait.
