BASSETT’S POND (14 PEGS)

Angling Times (UK) - - SOUTH -

ALTHOUGH only a small lake, Bassett’s Pond packs a serious punch in the colder weather. It has a uniform depth of 6ft, an aerator near peg 1 and an array of marginal vegetation that screams fish.

It’s stocked with a 50:50 ratio of carp and silverfish. At this time of the year silverfish stocks are your best target, although the odd carp can still be picked up.

Pegs 1, 2 and 14 to the aerator can be extremely productive for roach, rudd, ide and carp on the waggler. A 4mm banded pellet or single caster or maggot fished shallow will also get you bites all day long if the feed is introduced little-and-often.

Caster fished over hemp on the 5m line and on the deck has also been successful for the tench and skimmers of late.
