Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

In clear water coated braid hooklengths are very visible to barbel, so try using mono or thin braid instead.

In low water crashing a large feeder on the fish’s head isn’t ideal so in such conditions use a straight lead and PVA mesh bag.

If travelling to a river from a long distance always check the levels on the internet – something I forgot and paid the price for!

When after big fish on a river, use a groundbait mix that binds together well as you don’t want it to wash away quickly.

Planning is critical to consistently catch big fish and I would say that at least 50 per cent of any success or failure is decided before you leave home.
