Skimmers on the feed at McCallums
THE carp sport may be slowing down but pleasure anglers visiting McCallums Fishery near Doncaster have been reporting some cracking nets of skimmers.
Nets close to 50lb have been featuring on the fishery’s specimen water known as East End Lake, and these fish make a worthwhile target now the big carp on this lake are shoaling up. Casting a waggler or slider around 25 yards out is all you need to do to put yourself on the fish, but anglers have been getting plenty of bites on the long pole with maggots and casters over groundbait or micro pellets.
The fish average 1lb-2lb but the odd bigger fish can be caught, and don’t be surprised if you snare a carp or two – so don’t fish too light a rig.
Another pleasure pool on site is known as the West End Lake. This pool holds carp to 25lb as well as masses of roach and perch, which can provide plenty of action all through the winter using simple tactics.
