NO MATTER how neatly you lay everything out in your bivvy, essential items have a habit of being just out of reach at a crucial stage.

Bivvy tables overflow with bits and pieces, sleeping bags swallow rigs, and baiting tools vanish at precisely the moment they’re required.

The problem of fumbling around for essentials is most acute at night – especially if that particular essential is a light.

One of the best, and simplest, solutions to this problem we have seen recently is to use the magnetism of your bivvy lamp. RidgeMonkey’s Bivvy-Lite Duo, which attaches to the roof or the side of your shelter by magnetically clamping to a strip of metal placed on the outside, is the perfect device to which to attach your trinkets – but other, similar, lamps will do the same job just as well.

I used this little trick during a recent two-night session at Linear and it’s amazing how much time it saved. Spare rigs, scissors, a lighter and baiting needles stayed solidly in place until needed, and genuinely saved time and effort in hunting for them across a messy bivvy.

Be prepared – small items lead to big fish.
