It’s not the captors’ fault but this ‘record’ carp saga is plain ridiculous

Angling Times (UK) - - YOUR FISHING WEEK -

I’VE just read on your Facebook page that the new ‘record’ carp in RH Fisheries has been caught again, except this time it’s 2lb bigger and is 71lb-something now.

This is a worrying time for carp fishing. Is this going to be a weekly thing as the UK record gets upped and upped by the same force-fed fish?

Is this monstrosity going to grow and grow to the levels we see in France and Hungary – 90lb or even 100lb? I’m not having a go at the anglers who have caught this recently-stocked fish – all they’ve done is go fishing. But morally the nature of how this record has come about it is all wrong, and as far away from proper angling as you can get.

For me the true British record will always be the likes of Mary, Two Tone and The Parrot from Wasing. S Houghton, via email
