Midlands Hot river swims in your area
WINTER roach fishing has kicked off at Sion Farm and 20lb-25lb weights of redfins are already starting to show on the Main Lake.
Anglers here in the past have recorded nets to 30lb, mainly roach to 2lb and the odd bream.
As with most commercial roach fishing, it’s best to keep it simple. On pole or waggler, feed a 6m line with casters and one further out with micro pellets. Start on the near line with a light strungout rig set at dead depth and a caster on the hook, and keep the feed going in.
Every so often try the pellet line with a 4mm expander for bream to 4lb, but don’t forget to keep feeding your near line.
If bites dry up, try adding another section and fishing slightly further out. To catch quickly, a whip is a good option and is a fun way of sacking up on Sion’s roach.
Carp between 8lb and 20lb have also been featuring on this lake to bomb and feeder tactics from pegs that can reach the island. They’ve shown no sign of slowing down in the cold, with fish into double figures taken on boilie and corn hookbaits.
