The river revival is not just hype – I know that from my great catches!

Angling Times (UK) - - YOUR FISHING WEEK -

WHEN I first took up fishing around 20 years ago I was a really enthusiastic river angler and got on my local waters every week.

The fishing was fantastic back then and it was anybody’s guess how big the next barbel, chub or roach would be. But all of a sudden the sport seemed to die off and no matter how hard I tried, the results just didn’t come – I wasn’t alone in this struggle.

I reluctantly switched my attentions to stillwaters and was hooked on them – until recently.

I’d read plenty of positive articles in the media about the river revival but I thought it was probably hype.

But I decided to bite the bullet and have a quick go on a local stretch. To say I am glad I did it is an understatement, with five barbel to 8lb, a couple of quality bream and even a 4lb chub coming in one day.

I wasn’t alone in my success. It looks like the papers are spot on – the rivers are back to their best! Gary Darley, Grantham
