Your letters on the week’s news
ABOUT five years ago I took up match fishing, and it’s fair to say I was absolutely useless to start with!
I got it into my head early on that the successful anglers in the club were doing something completely different to the rest of us. So to combat that I tried all sorts of different bait concoctions. Needless to say they all bombed out.
But as time progressed and I spent more time talking to those that won lots of contests, I started to realise that it was the subtle changes they made that were doing the damage. Altering shotting patterns, tensioning the elastic correctly and feeding a swim appropriately were just some of the simple, yet vital, elements.
Since I started tweaking things as opposed to overhauling them my results have improved drastically. Graham Porter, Doncaster
