Your Letters on the week’s news

-

I’D like to congratulate the Environment Agency on a very sensible overhaul of the rod licence system.

I am a member of several fishing clubs and the number of juniors on their books is desperately low. I can’t remember the last time I saw a youngster on the bank when I was fishing one of their waters.

Giving them a free rod licence is a great incentive to try out fishing and, as Andy May said in last week’s Angling Times, you only need to give them one go with a rod and they’ll soon be craving more.

I’ve heard a few moans about the fact that the adult licence price is going up from £27 to £30 but I think these people need to take a long hard look at themselves. I don’t like spending extra money when I see no benefit to it, but it is clear that small extra outlay is making sure that juniors get the chance to go fishing for free. Carl Neal, Bletchley
