Roach are march­ing into town

WITH the cooler weather the sil­ver­fish have started to pack into the town cen­tre stretches of the Old River Nene in March, Cam­bridgeshire.

This venue can of­fer plea­sure an­glers some of the best river roach fish­ing in the coun­try un­der the right con­di­tions, and a pretty sub­stan­tial net of fish even when it’s hard.

There are two sec­tions to fish – the town cen­tre, which is free, and on the out­skirts of the town by the by­pass, avail­able on a day ticket through March District An­glers. The by­pass pegs pro­duced good catches of tench, perch and rudd in a re­cent match and are still worth a look. Come the depths of win­ter, though, and the town
