Trent sport at a record high
“THE silverfish sport on the River Trent is better now than in the so-called golden years of the pre-1990s.” And it’s hard to argue with Mark Perkins’s bold statement following his capture of this mixed bag of perch and roach.
The impressive haul was taken while shooting a feature for Angling Times’ sister title Improve Your Coarse Fishing at a Newark & District Piscatorial Federation-controlled stretch of the Midlands water using maggot feeder tactics.
“Maggots will catch anything that swims and you never know what will take the hookbait next. I’ve caught loads of big barbel and chub using maggot feeder tactics as well as getting a host of silverfish,” said Mark.
“It’s a great tactic for getting bites in cold, clear water when the big fish especially will back off a large feeder full of pellets and fishmeal groundbait,” he added.
Mark Perkins believes fishing has never been as good on the Trent as it is now.
