Big roach in char­ity win at Der­went

MATCH an­glers have put their hands deep in their pock­ets and raised £715 for the North­ern Air Am­bu­lance thanks to an an­nual char­ity match on Der­went Reser­voir near Con­sett, Co Durham.

Nor­mally a trout fish­ery, coarse fish­ing is al­lowed at selected times.

The vast wa­ter holds big shoals of roach al­though the rain and cold weather did ham­per sport for the 84-peg event. Nev­er­the­less, 21-0-0 won for Stu­art Grim­ney as he took fish to 1lb on bomb and mag­got, the same ap­proach see­ing Tommy Mar­shall bag 19-0-0 of roach for sec­ond place.
