Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

1 WHEN rivers are running low and clear, chub and barbel can ignore large baits. This is the time to switch to the maggot feeder, as a steady stream of grubs will soon get the shoals hunting for more.

Red maggots work well enough, but I like to boost them with some extra flavour. Whiskey, Key Food Dip and The Source flavourings work really well in cold water. Add a teaspoonful to each pint of maggots the day before fishing.

Even a big feeder will empty quickly on the river, so tape up some of the holes. This will keep a trickle of maggots going for up to 45 minutes.

HOOKBAIT For this style of fishing nothing beats a bunch of red maggots, boosted or dipped with flavour. MAGGOT FEEDER This style sits fluuh with the riverbed. If the holes allow too many maggots to escape, tape some up.
