Great pike, but should it count as a personal best?
TOM Bray’s 30lb pike pictured in last week’s Angling Times was a magnificent fish, but I wouldn’t be counting it as a personal best.
He was fishing for carp with a boilie and therefore the amount of skill required to bank the pike was reduced.
There would have been no homework to find the fish and no thought behind his tactics. Therefore, in my eyes, it is nowhere near as remarkable a catch when compared to someone who actually goes in search of a fish this size and eventually succeeds in putting it on the bank.
Accidental captures might make nice photo opportunities but they shouldn’t be counted on a list of personal bests.
