Angling Times (UK) - - WHERE TO FISH -

Local match angler and venue expert Russell Shipton says…

Tackle: “Bream are sluggish at the best of times, especially in cold water, so use light tackle – I suggest 0.14mm Middy Lo-Viz mainline to a 0.12mm or 0.10mm hooklength and a size 16 hook. A soft elastic that won’t bump bream on the strike is required, and an 8-10 MTDI Hi-Glow is perfect.” Bait: “Feed two balls of groundbait at the start to give the fish something to graze over. I use a 50/50 blend of Marukyu Luxus Sweet Fishmeal and Sweet Fishmeal Black. Rotate your hookbaits between a 6mm expander pellet, a small section of worm or double maggot. Tactics: “Start by fishing directly over your groundbait but if small carp appear, fish a few metres off the bait where big bream could be lurking. Feed two or three lines and expect maybe just one to produce the goods.”
