Where do river fish go in winter? Here are three reliable lines to try, but sometimes you need to be inventive too

NOW that the weather has gone cold, where should I be fishing on a river to find the fish?

WHETHER a river is low, cold and clear or up and coloured, fish will still feed at some point in the day although, as you say, where you’ll find them can vary greatly.

On a typical winter river, however, running at normal level and flow with just a touch of colour in the water, you can narrow down your search to just a couple of places.
