IT’S still considered the nation’s favourite fish, and is probably the most commonly caught too, but to many anglers a 2lb roach is still the holy grail of angling.

Years ago a big roach used to be a rare occurrence but these days, thanks to high-protein carp baits, dozens of stillwater­s hold specimens over the 2lb mark.
