Two cracking summer perch fall to Ned rig

Angling Times (UK) - - NETBUSTERS -

MOST anglers consider perch to be a winter species, but Martyn Welch showed that it’s worth targeting them in summer too by slipping the net under two 3lb-plus specimens.

The Mansfield angler targeted a middle stretch of the River Trent where he alternated between a lure rigged ‘Ned’ style and a surface popper lure.

He said: “I didn’t weigh the fish but they measured around 42cm, which would put them over 3lb at this time of year even though they were spawned out. It’s worth fishing for them even in sunny weather”

TOP TIP: “Stay mobile when lure fishing rivers. The fish are holed up in certain areas.”
