PERSONAL BEST GOES THREE TIMES IN SINGLE SESSION

30lb common tops seven-fish haul

-

A“DREAM session” is how Raphan Batty described his pb-busting visit to a northern day-ticket water.

His 48-hour trip to Newbridge Lakes, at Burstwick near Hull, produced a trio of personal bests, topped by this 30lb common.

In all, Raphan managed seven fish, of which five were over 20lb.

“I caught the common on a dream 48-hour session at Newbridge Lake,” said the Hull angler. “I broke my personal best three times.”

“I hadn’t fished the peg for three years but I pre-booked it due to the number of lilies in the swim, which are a holding area for the carp.

“I was fishing in a gap in some lily pads and, over the course of the session, I had seven fish, five of which were over 20lb.

“The session started slowly, with two fish coming at 3am and 4am on the first night.

“I had a 25lb ghostie from open water at around 3pm, followed by another two 20lb-plus ghosties between 4pm and 7pm, and the common came just after 9pm.”

Raphan’s winning tactic involved drilling out his 18mm Mainline Cell hookbaits and plugging them with cork. He presented around 30 matching freebies over the top.
