BLUEBELL LAKES OUNDLE, NORTHANTS

-

A BLUEBELL

As well as huge carp this lake holds specimen tench, perch to 4lb and roach to 2lb-plus which are caught every autumn and winter out towards the middle on maggots.

This lake also holds lots of bream well into double figures. For a bit of late-summer surface carp action try the southernmost corner of the lake.

B SANDMARTIN

This carp lake also holds tench and bream. CC Moore-backed Lee Crampton bagged a 40lb common from here less than a fortnight ago using a PVA bag with small pellets cast out into the middle of the lake. A huge shallow area on the Bluebell side of the lake is a tench hotspot.

C KINGFISHER

There are dozens of thirties and a sprinkling of 40lb carp in here. Boilies are the top bait rather than particles on this pool. Deep margins on the river side can fish well, especially when it’s cooler.

D SWAN

This 12-acre lake holds carp to 50lb and monster catfish to triple figures. A 12lb tench was also caught on this lake earlier in the season and it holds plenty more doubles. There is no fishing from the Sandmartin bank but anglers tend to fish the first possible pegs and cast over to the reeds on that bank. A small gravel bar at the narrow, shallow end of the lake also holds fish. Avoid using boilies for the carp, as they prefer other baits.

E MALLARD

The largest pool on the complex it has shallows, weed beds and gravel bars. The carp go to over 30lb and there are thought to be over 1,000 doubles, making it one of the best for runs. There are also big roach, tench and bream.

F RIVER NENE & WILLOW CREEK

There are 80 pegs on the River Nene offering a mix of species including some cracking chub and bream. Willow Creek is a narrow stretch which runs off the main river and holds chub to 6lb.
