I UNDERSTAND that it’s necessary to soak soft pellets for 1 minute per 1mm, but do I need to soak hard pellets?

Paul Flint via e-mail

BY SOFT pellets you presumably mean expander pellets – readyprepared soft pellets don’t need anything doing to them. When it comes to hard pellets, whether you soak them depends on the size of pellet being used and how you intend to use them.

Larger 6mm and 8mm pellets can be used straight out of the bag for loosefeeding when fishing shallow. Only when fishing on the bottom or with a Method feeder would hard pellets need soaking.

Standard 4mm pellets can still float when fished out of the bag so giving them a dampening beforehand solves the problem.

Micro pellets always need soaking because they are light and can float on the surface. They also need wetting so they stick together when moulded around a Method feeder.
