The River Trent continues to be one of the go-to rivers for big predator action, as Perry Phillips showed when he netted this whopping 13lb 7oz zander.

The South Yorkshire Police Angling Club bailiff targeted his own club’s stretch of the mighty waterway at Littleborough.

He tempted the specimen on a small dead roach hookbait fished on a simple leger rig made up with a 20ins wire trace and a 3oz lead.

TOP TIP: “When legering for predators make sure you fish with a slack line. If your line is too tight, the fish is bound to feel the resistance and will often spit the deadbait out.”
