BIG ROACH WILL BE MY EARLY-SEASON THAMES TARGETS
I’M more than ready for the season to start. I’ve been as frustrated as the abolitionists, watching my local semi-tidal Thames go from raging torrent to a delicious-looking semiclear flowing river. It’s stick float pace as I write, something that seldom happened last year.
Despite that, my summer sessions will be spent behind a quivertip rod waiting for the roach of a lifetime.
I know they’re in there, and I know how to catch them... at least, I did last year.
I’ll also be giving the river a bit of a going-over lower down. I’m trying to sort roach from bream on the full tidal too and, despite rumours, there’s an abundance of free parking – midweek too – a full 10m from the river!
Like all great things, the new season is worth waiting for.
A decent Thames roach I caught on pellet last year. I’m hoping for a monster or two this season.
