THE CAPTAIN WILL GET THE RECORD – AM I BOVVERED?

Angling Times (UK) - - THIS WEEK -

A RECORD fish is simply the biggest of its identified species caught by legal means.

On the basis that the carp known as Captain Jack had been caught previously at weights below the current record it doesn’t qualify as ‘cultivated’, as trout records are described when fish are stocked at weights exceeding the record.

There used to be a ‘naturalised’ record – fish stocked far larger than standard practice that had grown to record size. Captain Jack would fall nicely into that category... if only it still existed.

When the Captain gets the nod, Stan in his bivvy will be on social media decrying the fact, while Jadon in his carp house will be made up. “Pukka, innit?”

I’ll be in full Lauren Cooper (Catherine Tate) mode. “Look at my face. Do I look bovvered?”

Captain Jack – only a matter of time...
