Tasty treats in spotlight at Tayvallich flower show
A BUSY evening at Tayvallich flower show saw a fine display of horticultural talent from both young and old.
The show, held on Wednesday August 9, was well supported with plenty of entries but it was the baking section that proved particularly popular, with many shortbread and sponge cake entries to be judged.
In the lead up to the show, the committee has been encouraging pupils at the Tayvallich Primary School to develop their gardening skills with classes in growing potatoes, sunflowers and marigolds. This went some way to ensuring that the children’s entries were excellent, making it impossible in the end to separate three joint winners of the School Trophy.
The auction by Roly MacArthur of donated exhibits at the end of the evening was highly successful, raising £562 with all show profits going to support Tayvallich Village Hall.
Cup winners: flowers and plants – Mary McLauchlan; floral arrangements – Mary McLauchlan; vegetables and fruit – Bob Moyes; baking and preserves – Jane Allan; Baking Salver – Mary McLauchlan; preserves – Jane Allan; Rose Bowl – Lorna MacKellar; Minnie Munro Trophy for Shortbread – Mary McLauchlan; photography – Sorley Self; School Cup joint winners – Iris MacMillan, Molly Lazenbury and Lewis Oswald.
