Red Star triumph to crush Cardross
RED STAR continued their good start to the season last Saturday as they welcomed Cardross AFC to a wet and windy Joint Campus 3G.
The home side welcomed back Aaron Moore from injury and suspension, and it took the Star captain less than a minute to put his side in front, after he latched on to a through ball from Kieran Moore for 1-0.
Star were in no mood to allow their opponents back into the match and raced into a 4-0 lead at the break thanks to further goals from Kieran Moore with a double and Ciaran McPhie.
At the other end, the Red Star back three of Luke Naisby, Kyle Selfridge and Lucas Alderson were coping well with the aerial threat posed by a physical Cardross attack.
With the wind at their backs going into the second half, Red Star looked to add to their tally and did so with Rab Docherty cutting in from the right flank and drilling a shot past the keeper to put his side 5-0 up.
Star were disappointed to concede soon after, however, when Cardross managed to bundle home a corner to get on the scoresheet.
But this was as good as it got for the visitors as Star added further goals with Kieran Moore scoring another two to put him on four goals for the afternoon and McPhie also adding to his tally, making it a good day for Red Star’s young strikers.
Aaron Moore also added to his tally to give Star a convincing 9-1 win against the league newcomers.
The Lochgilphead side will be expecting a much tougher test tomorrow when they take on a rejuvenated Busby AFC. The game is due to be played at the Ropework and kicks off at 2pm.
In the draw for the West of Scotland Cup first round, Red Star were handed a very difficult home tie against Maryhill Thistle with the match due to be played on Saturday December 16.
