Spe­cial recog­ni­tion for Mid Ar­gyll ath­letes

MARY’S Meals char­ity shop in Lochgilp­head has recog­nised the achieve­ments of three Mid Ar­gyll Spe­cial Olympics ath­letes.

Man­ager Ma­rina Camp­bell dec­o­rat- ed the shop win­dow with flags and pic­tures of ath­letes Flora Cur­rie, Camp­bell Fer­gu­son and Iain Macdougall fol­low­ing their medal-win­ning per­for­mances. The trio won gold, sil­ver and bronze medals, fin­ish­ing the games in Sh­effield with team gold and sil­ver against more than 1,200 ath­letes.

Ma­rina said that the ath­letes were truly in­spir­ing and she wanted to show her sup­port for their achieve­ments.

She added: ‘Flora Cur­rie was a vol­un­teer here and we felt that the team did so well and we wanted to show our ap­pre­ci­a­tion of all the hard work and ef­fort.

Win­dow

‘I just thought it was a great op­por­tu­nity be­ing in the mid­dle of the town, and that we should do a nice win­dow for them as a thank-you and a cel­e­bra­tion.’

The ath­letes trained for the com­pe­ti­tion for sev­eral months and are now look­ing for­ward to a break be­fore be­gin­ning train­ing for the next Spe­cial Olympics in four years’ time.
