Special recognition for Mid Argyll athletes
MARY’S Meals charity shop in Lochgilphead has recognised the achievements of three Mid Argyll Special Olympics athletes.
Manager Marina Campbell decorat- ed the shop window with flags and pictures of athletes Flora Currie, Campbell Ferguson and Iain Macdougall following their medal-winning performances. The trio won gold, silver and bronze medals, finishing the games in Sheffield with team gold and silver against more than 1,200 athletes.
Marina said that the athletes were truly inspiring and she wanted to show her support for their achievements.
She added: ‘Flora Currie was a volunteer here and we felt that the team did so well and we wanted to show our appreciation of all the hard work and effort.
‘I just thought it was a great opportunity being in the middle of the town, and that we should do a nice window for them as a thank-you and a celebration.’
The athletes trained for the competition for several months and are now looking forward to a break before beginning training for the next Special Olympics in four years’ time.
