Red Star took every opportunity against an injury-hit Busby AFC, scoring 10 goals and securing their place at the top of the table.

Star looked to put the visitors under pressure, shooting uphill in the first half and found themselves a goal to the good early on when Kieran Moore beat the offside trap before firing home across the keeper from close range.

Star added to their lead with 12 minutes gone when this time Kieran Moore elected to cut the ball across to Ciaran McPhie who tapped home from close range for 2-0.

It wasn’t long before Lee MacLean opened his account for the season when a driving run from midfield saw him pass two defenders before beating the keeper with a classy finish.

Aaron Moore was next to find the target when his powerful shot from the edge of the box beat the Busby keeper to put Star 4-0 up.

Just before the break Red Star were 5-0 up when Kieran Moore added to his tally with a well-struck free kick to put the home side in cruise control at the break.

The Lochgilphead side added goals through Kieran Moore and Rab Docherty early in the second half before Ciaran McPhie added another excellent strike to have Red Star 8-0 up before the hour mark.

The Star management team were able to refresh their side with all five substitutes getting a good run out. The home side added a couple of late goals through Kevin Keen to take their tally to 10 for the afternoon and 24 goals in their opening three league matches.

Tomorrow (Saturday September 2), Red Star look to keep their good run of form going when they take on East End United in Greenock.
