Coun­cil­lor leaves Is­lay post of­fice

COUN­CIL­LOR Alas­tair Red­man is leav­ing his po­si­tion as an Is­lay post­mas­ter to con­cen­trate on ward du­ties.

The Con­ser­va­tive coun­cil­lor for Kin­tyre and the Is­lands will be leav­ing Port­na­haven Post Of­fice on Oc­to­ber 5.

He has worked at Port­na­haven for 12 years, start­ing out in the job aged 17, and was be­lieved to be the youngest post­mas­ter in the UK at the time.

Coun­cil­lor Red­man aged 30, said: ‘I am leav­ing the post of­fice to con­cen­trate on be­ing a full time coun­cil­lor.

‘I would just like to say a huge thanks to all the cus­tomers and ev­ery­one who has sup­ported me over the years.

‘The post of­fice will still be open through an out­reach sys­tem and I wish all the best to the new em­ployee who is tak­ing over.’
