Ar­dr­ishaig stu­dent thanks Allt Dearg

A STU­DENT from Ar­dr­ishaig has thanked the Allt Dearg Ed­u­ca­tional Trust for pro­vid­ing her with a grant.

Kathryn Mer­rilees, who stud­ied BSc Bio­chem­istry and Phar­ma­col­ogy at the Univer­sity of Strath­clyde, has said the grant helped re­lieve her of fi­nan­cial pres­sure while away from home.

The stu­dent, who grad­u­ated in June, said: ‘The money I was awarded has helped al­le­vi­ate some of the fi­nan­cial bur­den as­so­ci­ated with study­ing at univer­sity while liv­ing away from home.

‘The grant has helped me buy my text­books and other univer­sity es­sen­tials and a bus ticket to visit home ev­ery now and again.’

Kathryn is now study­ing a masters de­gree in In­dus­trial Biotech­nol­ogy at Strath­clyde and is hop­ing to en­ter full-time em­ploy­ment next year fol­low­ing five years in higher ed­u­ca­tion.

Knowl­edge

She con­tin­ued: ‘I hope to seek a full­time job once grad­u­at­ing next year us­ing the knowl­edge I will have ac­quired over the five years at univer­sity.

‘I am so thank­ful to the Allt Dearg trust for ev­ery­thing they have helped me with.’
